GNS3 is a graphical network simulator that allows you to design complex network topologies and to launch simulations on them. You may run simulations or configure devices ranging from simple workstations to powerful Cisco routers.

To allow complete simulations, GNS3 is strongly linked with :

• Dynamips: Dynamips is an IOS emulator which allows users to run IOS binary images from Cisco Systems.
• Dynagen, Dynagen is a text-based front-end for Dynamips.

GNS3 is a excellent complementary tool to real labs for administrators of Cisco networks or people wanting to pass their CCNA, CCNP, CCIP or CCIE certifications.

It can also be used to experiment features of Cisco IOS or to check configurations that need to be deployed later on real routers. This project is an open source product that may be used on multiple platforms, including Windows, Linux, and MacOS X.

At the moment GNS3 supports IOS routers, ATM/Frame Relay/Ethernet switches and hubs. You can even extend your own network by connecting it to your virtual topology.

GNS3 has been developed in python and through PyQt the GUI part is made with the powerful Qt library , famous for its use in the KDE project. GNS3 uses the SVG technology (Scalable Vector Graphics) to provide high quality symbols for designing your network topologies.

GNS3 enables you to design high quality complex network topologies. You can emulating Cisco routers as you have never done before. Simulate simple Ethernet, ATM and Frame Relay switches. You can load and save in Dynagen's INI-like format. You can also export images in JPEG, PNG, BMP and XPM formats.

You can use GNS3 on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.
